It’s easy to forget about your furnace until it breaks down. This usually happens as soon as the temperature begins to dip. If your furnace isn’t heating your home properly, it just might be time to replace it. Here are five signs that you need a furnace replacement.
1. Uneven Heat Distribution
Is it colder in one room than it is in others? An efficient furnace heats each room evenly. As your furnace puts out heat, it is challenging for it to distribute the heat to each room in your house.
2. Higher Utility Bills
Take a look at your recent utility bills. Are they unusually high? If so, your furnace may be the problem. An inefficient furnace requires more energy to operate. As a result, you’ll notice a significant increase on your utility bill.
3. Old Furnace
Furnaces have a limited life span of up to 20 years. Over time, you will notice that your furnace’s output has diminished. If you’re not sure about the age of your furnace, locate its model number. It can be found in the furnace or in the manual. Contact the manufacturer. A company representative will be able to determine the age of the unit based on the model number.
4. Frequent Repairs
A sure sign that your furnace needs to be replaced is when it requires frequent repairs. Older furnaces require more maintenance than new ones. However, your furnace shouldn’t be breaking down every other month.
5. Noisy Furnace
It’s normal for you to hear your furnace in the background when you turn up the thermostat. Loud noises such as banging, rattling and buzzing aren’t normal, though. These sounds may indicate that your furnace has structural damage or cracks.
